В 1752 году парусное торговое судно "Гелдермалсен" отплыло из портового города Вампу в Китае. Оно везло 150.000 фарфоровых изделий из Китая в Голландию. Владельцы судна планировали продать фарфоровые синие-белые тарелки и блюда в Европе. Но судно "Гелдермалсен" не достигло Европы. Где-то в Южно-Китайском море корабль столкнулся с коралловым рифом и затонул. Сорок четыре человека спаслись, но корабельный груз был утрачен. В 1980-х годах водолазы обнаружили затонувший корабль.
